Cancellations in advance MUST be discussed with your coordinator beforehand. Doing this incorrectly can result in forfeitures and fines from the league. Coaches should not be cancelling games on their own. Once a decision has been made, please confirm with the club scheduler via clubscheduler@pocosoccer.com.
ONLY the referee can cancel a match due to weather, and then only for safety reasons. You are expected to show up ready to play. If you feel conditions are unsafe for play, please discuss this with the referee before kicking off, and a decision can be made. Coaches are NOT to decide on weather related cancellations the morning of a scheduled match.
Sometimes, either the City of Port Coquitlam or Poco Euro-Rite FC has closed the fields due to rain, snow or frost in which case all games are automatically cancelled. Please be sure to call the other coach and let them know of the cancellation.
If the ref has not arrived 5 minutes before kick off, please call the club scheduler at 778-836-1641.
Referees are assigned for U8 and up. Parents are asked to act as linesmen – 1 parent from each team. The linesman’s job is only to call the call all the way out of play. They are not to determine the direction of play.
U8 Nets and flags are available in the metal bin situated in the North East corner of the field. (First team sets up, last team takes down)
U9-10 Corner flags are available in the smaller green bin between the benches on Turf 1.
Coaches are required to ensure that:
- players and coach arrive early so that games can begin on time
- nets are set-up (U8 only – first team sets up, last team takes down).
- fields are properly lined with flags put up (if required by league rules).
- With the home team providing linesmen (this is not a recognized volunteer position for the POCO Euro-Rite FC Soccer Volunteer Program and does not qualify for your $50 volunteer fee reimbursement)
- parents, players and team supporters respect the decisions of the referee and that the player, coach and parent Codes of Conduct are followed
Coaches are responsible for the behaviors of their parents.
Generally, Boys play scheduled games on Saturdays and girls play on Sundays.
U8 play at Ecole Des Pionniers (1618 Patricia Ave) and away games are at various fields mostly in Coquitlam and Port Moody.
U9 and U10 Home Field – Gates Park 3A, 3B, 3C. Away Games mostly in Coquitlam and Port Moody.
Most teams will practice inside a school gymnasium; some teams may request and be provided turf time instead based on availability. Gymnasium times and locations are allocated in September by the Club Scheduler (clubscheduler@pocosoccer.com). Coaches will be sent a form to request their 2 preferred days of the week, North or South Side, and 2 preferred times to the gym coordinator. All effort is made to accommodate preferences. Gym times are booked in 60 minute blocks usually on the hour.
Equipment and Uniforms are handed out prior to the season starting, usually immediately following the Labour Day long weekend.
Teams are put together over the summer months with a little bit of juggling as the season starts. Rosters are usually sent to coaches by Mid-Late August.
The soccer season usually starts Mid-September and ends in March. There is a break over the Christmas holidays.
